I applied to NYU for a Masters in Music Business.

Let me start this post by saying (simply to make myself feel better): NYU's Steinhardt School of Education has one of the top 15 education programs in the U.S. (TIED FOR SPOT #14 WITH MY ALMA MATER - THE UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS AT AUSTIN!! I HAD NO IDEA!!)

Dear Ms. Kelly,

Thank you for your interest in New York University and the Steinhardt School of Education.

I am writing to provide you with an update on your application for admission. At this time, space limitations prevent us from offering you a place in the entering class. You have been placed on a wait list.

Once we hear back from the initial offers that were made for your program of study, the Admissions Committee will revisit the remaining applicants on the wait list, of which you are in the top tier, to select the most qualified candidates. We cannot offer you a specific time frame. We will certainly do everything we can to settle this process as quickly as possible for all concerned.

There is nothing further you need to do. However, if your plans have changed and you do not wish to remain on our wait list, please contact the Office of Graduate Admissions at steinhardt.gradadmissions@nyu.edu. Otherwise, we will be in touch with you as soon as we have a decision from the Admissions Committee.

We regret not being able to offer you admission at the time, and appreciate your patience with this process.

Sincerely,

John S. Myers
Director of Enrollment Management

Even though I did not immediately get admission (sad!) - being good enough for the wait list is pretty rock awesome to me (yay!). Check out the stats:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NYU

NYU was named by Kaplan as one of the "New Ivies," so-called because of those schools' prestige, educational quality, and desirability that are supposedly roughly equivalent to the Ivy League schools. NYU counts 23 Nobel Prize winners; 9 National Medal of Science recipients; 12 Pulitzer Prize winners; 19 Academy Award winners (more than any other American university); several Emmy, Grammy, and Tony Award winners; and many MacArthur and Guggenheim Fellowship holders among its past and present graduates and faculty.

NYU is ranked:

* 34th among U.S. News and World Report's top 248 American "National Universities"
* 29th among Shanghai Jiao Tong University's world's top 500 universities
* 39th among Newsweek Magazine's top 100 global universities

Lady, I am so proud of you. I really hope you get in, even if it means you'll be leaving us.

Thank, Nats.

I am not thinking super positively, but being on the wait list this year GREATLY improves my chances if I choose to re-apply.

We'll see.
